CS senior Jacob Reed won the first prize for his presentation titled, “Customizing a Sentiment Analysis Tool for the Software Engineering Domain” in the undergraduate research category at 2016 ACM Midsoutheast, Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In the same category, CS junior Ayush Kohli won the second prize for his presentation titled, “Identifying Repackaged Android Apps Based on Static Program Analysis.”

The undergraduate research category was highly competitive with the participation of 36 students from 24 different schools. The conference is sponsored by the MidSoutheast Chapter of ACM (http//www.acmmidsoutheast.org/), which was formed in 1959 and is one of the older Chapters of the ACM.

Both Jacob and Ayush are members of the SoftSearch Research group at SIU and work under the guidance of Dr. Amiangshu Bosu. Jacob’s research is funded by the CURCA undergraduate research assistantship, and Ayush is one of the winners of REACH grant (https://vcresearch.siu.edu/student-research/REACH.php) for 2016-2017.
