Thank you for your interest in computer science. Computer science is a broad and multidisciplinary field. Its general focus is on the design, analysis and use of computer hardware and software. As an academic discipline, it does not focus on just one technology, programming language, or computer architecture. Rather, it seeks to ground you in the fundamental concepts that apply to many environments. Whether you are ready to apply or just browsing, we hope that the links on this page will assist you in your goal.


The School of Computing Computer Science Program offers two-degree programs to their prospective and current students:

Master of Science in Computer Science

The School of Computing Computer Science Program offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science degree with a major in Computer Science through the Graduate School. The M.S. degree program has been designed to provide students with a relevant graduate level education and to prepare them for careers as professional computer scientists or advanced doctoral level study.

Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science

The School of Computing Computer Science Program offers a graduate program leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree with a major in Computer Science through the Graduate School. The Computer Sciences Ph.D. program prepares a student to undertake independent research in either an academic or non-academic setting.

The SIUC Graduate School offers master's degrees in over 70 programs and the doctoral degree in over 30 programs.  Within these programs, our distinguished faculty offer inspired teaching and conduct innovative research to ensure our students have everything they need to make their college experience challenging and rewarding.

The College of Engineering, Computing, Technology and Mathematics degree programs serve the students, faculty, and staff of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. It offers programs in the Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathmatics leading to bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees and service courses for other units and programs throughout the University. As a unit with graduate programs in every department, the College expects and encourages its faculty to conduct original research in their disciplines and to keep current with recent developments in their disciplines through professional activities both nationally and internationally.

Tuition Fees

Tuition and fees for all students are assessed by the Registrar's Office.  Most grants, scholarships, or loans that are credited to the student's account to offset tuition and fee charges are processed by the Financial Aid Office.  Most campus charges and credits related to a student's account are centrally billed by the Bursar's Office and are viewable by logging into SalukiNet Self-Service.
