Lab Policy

Lab Access

CS Computer Lab - (Faner 2102)

Open to students who take cs300-level or above courses which require access to the department's computing facilities.

CS Hands-on Lab - (Faner 2133)

Open to certain research groups within the CS department only. Current research groups include Computer Graphics group headed by Dr. Wainer, Video-on-demand group headed by Dr. Wright, Distributed computing group headed by Dr. Wang, and Linux Cluster Computing group headed by Dr. Carver.

Students who want to have access to one of those computers will need approval from the group leader.

Any exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis and subject to approval of the Department Chair.

Game Playing

Game playing is not permitted in any CS Labs.

Food and Drinks

Absolutely no food or drinks are allowed in the Department of Computer Science Labs. No exceptions!!
You will lose your key and/or account privileges if you break this rule.

Etiquette

  • Please be considerate of others.
  • Please keep talking to a minimum.
  • Please re-shelve all manuals after using them.
  • Do not play music without using earphones or play audio files while others are present.
  • Do not use the screen lock option for more than 5 minutes. If you are doing research that requires a process to run for an extended period of time, make arrangements with the Lab Director.
  • Simply put...be courteous and conscientious of the other lab users.
