Advanced Linux System Administration

Catalog Description

This course is intended as a follow on to a first course on Linux system administration, or for students with previous Linux experience (installing, configuring, and maintaining single-user desktop machines). This course will focus on multi-user networked machines, servers, and machines in mixed networks (Linux, Windows, etc.). Among the software systems to be studied are: NIS, NFS, Samba, DNS/Bind, Apache, Sendmail, Postfix, etc. Network security systems such as Nessus and Snort will also be included. The course will involve some lectures, but also student-led class sessions and hands-on sessions in the lab.

Prerequisite:

CS406 or previous Linux experience (talk with the instructor if you are uncertain about your Linux background).
